Amazon Gift Card Scams on the Rise

Beware of fraudulent gift cards and phishing emails

Scammers are taking advantage of the popularity of Amazon gift cards to trick unsuspecting victims out of their money.

In recent months, there has been a surge in Amazon gift card scams. Scammers are using a variety of methods to trick people into giving them money, including:

  • Sending phishing emails that appear to come from Amazon and ask you to click on a link to update your account information or claim a prize. Clicking on the link will take you to a fake website that will steal your personal information, including your credit card number.
  • Creating fake Amazon gift cards that look like the real thing. These cards can be purchased online or at convenience stores, and they can be used to make purchases on Amazon.com. However, when you try to redeem the card, you will find that it is not valid.
  • Calling people on the phone and claiming to be from Amazon customer service. The scammers will tell you that you have won a prize or that your account has been compromised, and they will ask you to provide your credit card number to claim the prize or fix the problem.

If you receive an email, phone call, or text message that you believe may be a scam, do not click on any links or provide any personal information. You can report the scam to Amazon by forwarding the email to stop-spoofing@amazon.com.
